2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Reds didn't seem to want to bring Lowder up after just one start at Triple-A, but injuries had ravaged the rotation by late August and they decided to go with it. Impressively, he more than held his own after being thrown into the deep end, pitching to a 1.17 ERA over six starts in the major leagues. Lowder, the seventh overall pick in 2023, began his first professional season at High-A Daytona before quickly advancing to Double-A Chattanooga. While it wasn't all luck by any means, the right-hander was quite fortunate during his in the majors and outperformed his underlying metrics. Lowder has four pitches and a bright future, but Cincinnati is likely hoping it can afford him additional time in the minor leagues refine his craft before giving him an extended look in the big-league rotation. Still throwing off flat ground
Lowder (elbow) has been throwing off flat ground the last few weeks since being cleared by the medical staff, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lowder said he's progressing through the throwing program and believes he'll be on the "mound here shortly," although there's been no schedule established. The recently turned 23-year-old right-hander had been a candidate for the rotation, but it now appears likely he'll begin the season on the injured list before eventually heading to Triple-A Louisville. Lowder was impressive in a brief stint in the majors at the end of the 2024 regular season, posting a 1.17 ERA over six starts (30.2 innings).

2024 Fantasy Outlook
The ACC pitcher of the year in 2022 and 2023, Lowder pounds the strike zone with a well-rounded arsenal. The Reds used the seventh overall pick on the 6-foot-2 righty from Wake Forest after he logged a 1.87 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 143:24 K:BB in 120.1 innings across 19 starts as a junior. His changeup might be his lone plus pitch, but his fastball and slider project as above-average offerings. Lowder's fastball sits in the low 90s and can touch 97 mph with sink while his sweeping slider sits in the mid-80s. His plus control combined with the lack of effort in his delivery give him a pretty high floor if he can avoid significant injuries. Lowder throws all three of his offerings over 30 percent of the time, and he could be a quick mover through the minors. He opened the season at High-A Dayton and moved quickly to Double-A Chattanooga after five starts.

"I wouldn't even put an artificial timetable on him," manager Terry Francona said on Saturday. "Everybody shoots for Opening Day. I get it; I do, too. We need to do what's right by him, and we will. So that's kind of our timetable."
