2025 Fantasy Outlook
Pinto was waived by Tampa Bay in the offseason and grabbed by division foe Baltimore shortly thereafter. Pinto had been in the Tampa Bay organization since 2014 and showed some offensive upside through 2022 but spent the last few years as the club's third catcher between Durham and St. Pete while doing little other than jumping on mistakes. Pinto can punish a mistake, but can also be easily disposed of by pitchers as long as they hit their spots with their fastballs. You see, that's all Pinto is doing is hunting for fastballs as 8 of his 10 career homers have come off fastballs while he swings and misses at an insane amount of both fastballs as well as every other pitch type. Pinto is out of options, so Baltimore has to keep him around long enough to drain his brain of any intel he can provide them to help against Tampa Bay in future games. That may ultimately be his best value to the club if he makes the Opening Day roster because he does little else well enough to stay in the majors. Read Past Outlooks
Claimed by Baltimore
The Orioles claimed Pinto off waivers from the Rays on Monday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
Pinto began the 2024 season as the Rays' starting catcher but was sent down in early May after a slow start and was never recalled. The 28-year-old has hit .231/.263/.404 with 10 home runs over 82 games at the big-league level. Baltimore has an opening at backup catcher and Pinto will be a candidate to fill it.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Pinto is a 27-year-old catcher with a relatively underwhelming major-league resume, but he might be ready to emerge as a useful option at fantasy baseball's shallowest position if the Rays keep the runway clear. He's logged only 188 total plate appearances at the big-league level and has a weak .235/.255/.399 slash line to show for it, but Pinto plays stout defense behind the dish and the Tampa Bay front office seems to believe that he could soon blossom offensively. There is evidence to support that idea, as the Venezuelan native boasts an .844 OPS with 35 home runs and 113 RBI in 162 career games with Triple-A Durham. Christian Bethancourt and Francisco Mejia are both out of the picture now, so 2024 could be Pinto's year.
