Miles Mastrobuoni

Miles Mastrobuoni

29-Year-Old Third Baseman3B
Seattle Mariners
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Across two seasons in Chicago, Mastrobuoni has turned into a serviceable utility player with limited offensive upside. The left-hand hitting batter appeared in 50 games for the Cubs in 2024 and posted a .194/.245/.224 slash line with no home runs. Mastrobuoni was a bit better in 2023, when he posted a .609 OPS and one long ball across 61 games while also swiping 13 bags in just 14 attempts. The 29-year-old can play pretty much anywhere in the field, and his speed is a useful asset when he's on base. However, he simply doesn't hit or play enough to really move the fantasy needle. Heading into 2025, Mastrobuoni will likely compete for an Opening Day bench spot, but he could also start the year with Triple-A Omaha. Injuries on the MLB roster could open up a larger role, though for now, Mastrobuoni isn't really a viable option. Read Past Outlooks

Heading to bench Wednesday
3BSeattle Mariners
April 16, 2025
Mastrobuoni is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Mastrobuoni had cracked the lineup in each of the Mariners' previous four games against right-handed starting pitchers, but he'll head to the bench Wednesday as the Reds send righty Nick Martinez to the hill. With Jorge Polanco limited to designated-hitter duties while he tends to a side injury, the Mariners could mix and match with Mastrobuoni, Ben Williamson (who is starting Wednesday) and Dylan Moore at third base rather than settling on a primary replacement.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Mastrobuoni saw his most extended run at the MLB level in 2023, and while his overall numbers weren't overly impressive, he did finish the season well. The 28-year-old finished with a .241/.308/.301 slash line with a home run and five RBI across 61 games. However, in the final month of the season he slashed .333/.353/.394 across 16 games, and he started to see more regular playing time as a result. Mastrobuoni's biggest contribution throughout the year was his speed, as he managed 13 stolen bases in only 14 attempts. And while he primarily played at third base, Mastrobuoni also saw time at shortstop, second base and in right field. Heading into 2024, it looks like Mastrobuoni could serve as a utility player with the Cubs due to the versatility he displayed last season. It might not be the most fantasy-friendly role, though Mastrobuoni showed he can have a little value when he sees the field, particularly because of his ability to swipe bases.
Mastrobuoni spent most of the season with Triple-A Durham, slashing .300/.377/.469 with 23 steals in 26 attempts. His exploits earned him a late September promotion. Unfortunately, Mastrobuoni struggled, fanning six times in 17 plate appearances. Undeterred, the Cubs traded for Mastrobuoni where he'll have a chance to win a reserve role in the spring. Mastrobuoni can play all three outfield positions as well as both middle infield spots. His versatility bodes well for a utility job, but beware, while his numbers with the Bulls were solid, he was 26 years old, a bit elderly for the level. Because he can run, Mastrobuoni is worth monitoring, but he has a lot to prove before showing up on the fantasy radar.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could join big-league roster
3BChicago Cubs
June 18, 2024
Mastrobuoni is with the Cubs as a member of the taxi squad Tuesday as Mike Tauchman is banged up with a groin injury, reports Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune.
ANALYSIS
Mastrobuoni may not be added to the big-league roster but is with the club as depth in case Tauchman is moved to the injured list. Mastrobuoni has a .125/.222/.150 slash line in 45 plate appearances with the Cubs this season and isn't likely to be relevant for fantasy managers even if active.
