2017 Fantasy Outlook
A rare college outfielder with monster tools, Reed fell to the Padres with the No. 48 pick, signing for an under-slot bonus, because his below-average hit tool may not allow him to get the rest of his tools to show up in games. Despite his imposing 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame, Reed has plus-plus speed and should stick in center field. While his build suggests he could hit for power down the road, there are no signs that he will do so in games. He managed just a .083 ISO with zero home runs over 230 plate appearances as a 21-year-old in the Northwest League last year. The one positive sign is that he made contact at an acceptable clip, striking out just 23.0 percent of the time. If the hit tool improves by a grade or more, Reed could be a five-tool force, making him worth a flier in deeper dynasty leagues.
