2025 Fantasy Outlook
McGreevy made a handful of spot starts for the Cardinals in the first half of the 2025 season before finally being given a regular role in the rotation after the All-Star break. The results were mostly underwhelming. McGreevy ranked in the 93rd percentile with a 5.0 percent walk rate and the 76th percentile with a 48 percent groundball rate, but he managed a woeful 14.5 percent strikeout rate and a below-average 4.42 ERA over 95.2 innings. The 25-year-old is probably never going to be much of a bat misser, but he fanned right around a batter per inning at Triple-A Memphis over the last two seasons, so there's some hope he won't be a total zero in that area like he was in 2025. McGreevy is well suited for a Cardinals team that plays in a pitcher-friendly park and has a good defense behind him, but the profile as currently constructed isn't going to produce much fantasy value. McGreevy (8-4) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over 4.2 innings as the Cardinals were downed 7-3 by the Cubs. He struck out three.
Analysis
A pair of homers by Michael Busch accounted for all the damage off McGreevy, who got the hook after 88 pitches (56 strikes). The loss was only the second for the right-hander since the beginning of August, and over his final 11 starts of 2025 he went 6-2 with a 4.16 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 39:15 K:BB in 62.2 innings, staking a solid claim to a spot in St. Louis' 2026 rotation.

McGreevy was called up in a corresponding move Wednesday and will immediately be available out of the bullpen, but it would make sense for the Cardinals to give him a look in the rotation since they're effectively out of the playoff hunt. The 24-year-old made his MLB debut July 31 against Texas and allowed just one run on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk over seven innings, and he should have a chance to secure a spot in the big-league rotation during spring training.
