2025 Fantasy Outlook
Despite not making the Opening Day roster last spring, Vientos finished third on the Mets with 27 homers during the 2024 regular season, and he led the team with five long balls in the postseason. It was a breakout campaign at 24 years old, as Vientos added more than 200 points to his OPS from the year prior. He has a career strikeout rate of 30 percent, but he blisters the ball when he makes contact. His barrel rate ranked in the 92nd percentile and he crushed lefty pitching to the tune of a .300/.338/.546 slash line last season. A second-round pick in 2017, Vientos is paying dividends for New York, but speed is not part of the equation and his defense at third base graded out poorly, which has led to speculation he could be on the move to first base if Pete Alonso departs in free agency. The club will almost certainly find a way to keep Vientos' powerful bat in the lineup. Read Past Outlooks

Vientos earned a promotion to the big club in mid-May following a monster start to the season at Triple-A Syracuse. He struggled to replicate the success with the Mets, as he banged out nine home runs over 233 plate appearances but also posted a .620 OPS while striking out at a 30.5 percent clip. Vientos has fanned at a 27 percent rate during his time at Double- and Triple-A, so we probably can't count on much of an improvement with his strikeout rate in 2024. He did also draw walks at a 10.1 percent rate during those stops in the minors, so the 4.3 percent rate he had with the Mets could tick up. Ultimately, Vientos is likely to go as far as his power will take him, and he did collect a robust 51 percent hard-hit rate and 10.7 percent barrel rate. The 24-year-old could only have designated hitter eligibility initially in your fantasy league, and that spot might be his clearest path to playing time with the Mets.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Could be moved at deadline
The Mets have discussed Vientos in trades and are open to moving him at the deadline, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports.
Analysis
Vientos had a breakout 2024 season that saw him post an .837 OPS with 27 home runs during the regular season and a .998 OPS with five long balls during the postseason. However, the 25-year-old is not a strong defender and has regressed majorly on offense, putting up a .638 OPS with six homers. Vientos is under team control through 2029, so it would need to be a significant piece coming back to the Mets in order for them to consider dealing the infielder.
