Vientos drew the ire of Mets fans at times throughout 2025 as he failed to build on the momentum from his breakout 2024 season. He also finished poorly with a .184/.262/.303 line in September, coinciding with the Mets falling out of the playoff picture. Despite improvement with his strikeout rate, Vientos lost more than 30 points in batting average while his home-run total fell from 27 to 17 in 10 additional games. He slashed just .226/.291/.395 against right-handed pitching. Given his poor defensive marks at third base, the expectation is that Vientos will move across the diamond to replace Pete Alonso at first base in 2026. Simply put, Vientos must improve the plate if he is to maintain playing time long term for a big-market team with first-division expectations. Read Past Outlooks
