2025 Fantasy Outlook
Driscoll has slowly worked his way up the organizational ladder since being part of the deal that sent Emilio Pagan to San Diego back in 2020. Driscoll finally made his way to the big leagues in late 2024 and homered off Tanner Bibee for the only highlight of his time in the majors. Driscoll has hit .269/.348/.437 in just under 1,400 minor-league plate appearances, and the former second round pick out of George Mason raked in college with a .337/.427/.513 slash line over three seasons. The lefty has a swing that takes aim at the fences, even if he rarely gets it there. All eight of his homers in Triple-A came off righties, and his numbers against lefties are as bad as Rortvedt's, with whom he is in a platoon at catcher, as the roster stands now. It's odd to see two lefty catchers on the 40-man, and neither of them controls the running game well, which was a problem for the club in 2024. Driscoll has all his minor league options, so while he is penciled in as the backup at this time, the club is only loyal to that decision until a right-handed catcher who throws well becomes available on the open market or via trade. Cut from big-league camp
The Rays optioned Driscoll (ankle) to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Driscoll reached the majors for the first time in September and was given the chance for a spot on the Opening Day roster, but he didn't make much of a case this spring. He played in just two Grapefruit League games before going down with a right ankle injury that has kept him out of action since Feb. 25. If he's able to move past the injury within the next week, Driscoll should be in store for regular at-bats at Durham, while the Rays proceed with Danny Jansen and Ben Rortvedt as their catching tandem at the big-league level.
