2025 Fantasy Outlook
Teel was traded from the Red Sox to the White Sox this offseason as the headliner in a four-prospect package that sent Garrett Crochet to Boston. The No. 14 overall pick in 2023, Teel dominated every pro league he played in before stumbling slightly (.255/.374/.343 slash line, two HR in 28 games) in his first taste of Triple-A. He is a pure hitter and on-base machine over a slugger, but he has enough pop to be a 15-20 homer threat thanks to his excellent hit tool and swing decisions. Teel has the glove and the arm to stick at catcher and play a lot during his peak seasons. He may end up being better in on-base percentage leagues than batting average leagues, but he should provide an above-average ratio in both formats relative to the position. Teel is a 45-grade runner, but he's opportunistic and could chip in a handful of steals (12-for-17 on the bases last year). Since Teel didn't dominate at Triple-A and isn't on the 40-man roster, we may not see him in the majors until May or June, but he's very close to being big-league ready. New teammate Edgar Quero is arguably an even better catching prospect than Teel and should beat Teel to the majors, and if they end up splitting the catching duties evenly long term it will cap each of their outputs. Taking grounders at first base
Teel has been working out at first base recently at Triple-A Charlotte, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Teel has yet to play a position other than catcher in pro ball, and it's unlikely he'll be moved off that position on a full-time basis anytime soon. However, with Edgar Quero also vying for reps behind the plate, it makes sense for Teel to get some reps at another position. Teel is slashing .289/.394/.491 with eight home runs and seven stolen bases over 48 games with Charlotte in 2025.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
A perfect fit between prospect and team, Teel was scooped up by the Red Sox with the 14th overall pick in last year's draft, and proceeded to dominate three levels of the minors over a small sample. Not only will Teel have a favorable home park to hit in, but he is essentially unchallenged as Boston's long-term starting catcher. The Virginia product hit .429 with one home run and zero strikeouts in three Florida Complex League games. He then hit .377 with as many walks as strikeouts (11) in 14 games at High-A and .323 with one home run and two doubles in nine games at Double-A. All told, it was a .363/.483/.495 slash line with two home runs and three steals in 26 games. He had a linedrive rate over 32 percent and an opposite-field rate over 39 percent at High-A and Double-A. Based on his small pro sample and his .407 average and .475 OBP as a junior, the lefty-hitting Teel has a chance to be near the top among all catchers in batting average and on-base percentage during his prime years. Impressive runs and RBI totals should follow, but he may be capped at around 15-20 home runs, even with steady playing time. He could debut in late 2024 or early 2025.
