2025 Fantasy Outlook
Bubic, in the midst of his breakout season, broke down after 116.1 innings as his season ended with a rotator cuff strain that he later said had been an issue for most of the season. It should not have come as a surprise as Bubic has worked 16 innings in 2023, and 68 innings in 2024 returning from injury that his body struggled to react to the workloads of starting 20 contests. Yet, what Bubic was able to accomplish in those 20 starts was quite impressive considering his previous efforts as a starting pitcher. We saw some glimpses of success for Bubic working out of the pen in late 2024, and those who took the chance on that playing out as he converted to starting were rewarded with 8 wins, 11 quality starts, a strikeout per inning along with a shiny 2.55 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP. Bubic throws the kitchen sink at both righties and lefties and what he lacks in velocity he makes up for with location and utilization. Since 2024 (min 140 IP), he has pitched to the 8th-best ERA in baseball. Don't sleep on this guy, even while he's being overshadowed by a more talented lefty teammate. Read Past Outlooks
Cleared to begin throwing
Bubic (shoulder) has been cleared to begin a throwing program in November, MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Bubic missed nearly all of the second half after being diagnosed with a left rotator cuff strain, but he avoided surgery and is ready to resume throwing. While the left-hander currently appears on track for a normal offseason, the nature of the injury points to Bubic being a risky health proposition. The 28-year-old was having a breakout season before getting hurt, putting up a 2.55 ERA and 116:39 K:BB over 116.1 innings covering 20 starts.

2020
Coming off a career high 27 starts in 2022, Bubic made just three starts with the Royals in 2023, compiling a 3.94 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and striking out a batter-per-inning before injury struck. The left-hander underwent Tommy John surgery in late April making him unlikely to return in any capacity until the All-Star break. A return to the rotation has been muddied by the signings of Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha, but Bubic did agree to a one-year, $2.35 million contract in December meaning he's in the Royals' plans. A wait and see approach is probably best for fantasy managers in 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Longshot to be dealt
The Royals "would need to be bowled over" by an offer to consider trading Bubic at the deadline, Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan of ESPN.com report.
Analysis
Bubic has had a breakout 2025 campaign, collecting a 2.38 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 115:35 K:BB over 113.2 frames covering 19 starts. While the chances of the Royals dealing the left-hander are low, a dearth of high-end starting pitching on the trade market could convince the team to sell high on Bubic, who has one more year of team control in 2026.
