2025 Fantasy Outlook
Turner was beginning to look his age early on last season. He slashed just .217/.305/.349 with Toronto through the end of May and was later traded rather unceremoniously to Seattle. His power rebounded a bit following the move, but Turner still finished with just 11 home runs in 539 total plate appearances, marking his second time falling below 15 homers in the last three seasons. A two-time All-Star during his legendary tenure with the Dodgers, he ended up well above league average by wRC+ last season, which is rather remarkable given his awful start to the campaign. Eventually, it will be the end for real, but the now 40-year-old Turner seems fully intent on continuing to play in 2025 and reports suggest there are multiple teams interested in his services. Gets $6 million guaranteed
Turner agreed to terms Tuesday with the Cubs on a one-year, $4 million contract, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The deal contains a $10 million mutual option or $2 million buyout for 2026, so Turner is guaranteed $6 million. He can also earn an additional $2.5 million in incentives in 2025. The 40-year-old Turner will join the eighth organization of his career in 2025 after he slashed .259/.354/.383 with 11 home runs over 139 games between the Blue Jays and Mariners last season. Mooney relays that it's "unclear to what extent" the Cubs might consider Turner as an option at third base, where top prospect Matt Shaw (oblique) is the favorite to win the job. The Cubs' plan for now seems to be for Turner to see most of his playing time on the short side of a platoon at first base with Michael Busch, while also getting occasional starts at designated hitter.

While it wasn't by design, the Red Sox and Dodgers switched designated hitters with Turner signing in Boston on a one-year contract, with a player option. The deal called for a bonus every 20 plate appearances between 480 and 560. Turner should have kept going in the negotiation as he finished with a career-high 626 trips to the dish, mostly at designated hitter, but he also played ample first base to qualify at the spot next season, as well as appearing at second and third base. Turner set a new personal best with 96 RBI while falling one short of tying his career mark in runs. Even so, Turner's 114 wRC+ was his lowest since 2013, his last season with the Mets. Turner declined his $13.4 million player option, so his role entering 2024 is unclear. He's avoided the IL for two of the past three seasons, but at 39-years-old, he can't be counted on for another full season. Even so, especially with first base eligibility, Turner can be a mixed league asset, just have a backup corner at the ready.

Turned down higher offers
Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that Turner rejected better offers from other clubs before signing a one-year, $6 million contract with the Cubs on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran slugger split the 2024 campaign between Toronto and Seattle, and he finished with 11 home runs and a .259/.354/.383 slash line in 139 regular-season games between the two clubs. Turner likely won't fill an everyday role in his age-40 campaign but should see at least semi-regular at-bats between first base and designated hitter.
