2026 Fantasy Outlook
Hader leaned on his slider more than ever in 2025, tossing it at a career-high 41 percent clip. His 55.2 percent whiff rate on the pitch was best in the league for that pitch type among those with a minimum 300 sliders thrown. It, paired with his mid-90's sinker, powered Hader to yet another dominant campaign. His 29.1 K-BB percentage ranked fifth among qualified relievers, while his 2.05 ERA (11th) and 0.85 WHIP (T-3rd) were pristine marks. Hader's stability as Houston's closer was as high as it comes in the league, but he fell short of the 30-save mark since his season ended prematurely last August due to a left shoulder strain. Hader appears to be progressing well in his rehab based on recent reports, but Houston has yet to establish a return timeline for their closer. With Hader's availability for spring training currently unknown, clicking his name in 2026 draft rooms carries some risk, but the pick could pay off huge if he proves healthy entering 2026. Throwing off mound
General manager Dana Brown said Wednesday that Hader (shoulder) has thrown off a mound three times, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
Hader's season ended in mid-August after he suffered a left shoulder strain, but he appears to be progressing well in his rehab program. The Astros have yet to establish a return timeline for the lefty closer, however, so his availability for the start of spring training remains unknown.

After spending several years pitching under self-imposed usage rules, Hader was more flexible with his usage after securing a five-year deal with Houston last offseason. In fact, he established a career-high with 71 appearances -- seven of which were multi-inning affairs -- while his 71 innings pitched were his most in a season since 2019. The southpaw tied for fifth in the league with 34 saves and his 79.1 percent team save share was eighth highest among closers. Hader permitted 12 home runs (fourth most among relief pitchers), but he was dominant otherwise. He led all relievers with 105 strikeouts and his 37.8 percent strikeout rate ranked third. Hader significantly improved his walk rate, which correlated with an improved 0.96 WHIP. His eight wins only improved his fantasy value. The veteran closer is one save away from 200 for his career and should be considered one of the top five closers in 2025 drafts.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Should be ready for spring training
Hader, who ended the 2025 season on the injured list due to a shoulder injury, is expected to be ready for spring training next year, general manager Dana Brown told Matt Kawahara of The Houston Chronicle.
Analysis
Hader's season ended in early August due to a left shoulder injury, but he was dominant when available, posting a 2.05 ERA, a 0.85 WHIP and a 36.9 percent strikeout rate in 48 regular-season games in 2025. "Hopefully, we'll get him ramped up sometime early to mid-February...he's on course to come back and be there for Opening Day," Brown said. Hader's return would anchor the back of the Astros' bullpen and allow Bryan Abreu to return to a setup role.
