The catcher last appeared in the big leagues in 2024 while with the Pirates, and he'll look to impress with Boston in an attempt to get another crack at the major-league level in 2026.

That will be the best-case scenario for him in 2024, as a combination of Rodriguez and Henry Davis is almost certain to account for the majority of plate appearances behind the dish. To dampen Delay's outlook further, the Pirates signed Ali Sanchez to a one-year major league deal early this offseason, leaving him most likely to start the season in the minors. Even if injuries force Delay into a more significant role, he has just a career .078 ISO and .233 batting average across 354 plate appearances in the majors.
