2025 Projections

Healthy for spring training
Cross (back) will start center field and bat eighth Thursday in a "B" game against the Rangers, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cross finished the 2024 season on Double-A Northwest Arkansas' injured list on account of back discomfort, but he doesn't seem to be operating with any restrictions in the spring. He's already appeared in three Cactus League games and will get some more at-bats Thursday. The Royals are likely to reassign Cross to Triple-A Omaha or Northwest Arkansas before the end of spring training.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
A lefty-hitting 6-foot-3 outfielder from Virginia Tech, Cross hit .328/.411/.660 with 17 home runs, 12 steals and a 41:30 K:BB in 57 games as a junior before the Royals selected him with the No. 9 overall pick. His swing is a little long and he has a low bat path, so keeping the strikeouts in check will be important. Cross has plus raw power, so he can profile just fine in right or left field if he gets on base enough. His 25.2 K% and 68.7 Contact% as a 21-year-old at Single-A are concerning marks, and it seems likely that Cross's monster numbers (.312 AVG, eight HR, four SB in 29 games) in the lowest stateside levels will overexcite perspective dynasty managers.
