2025 Fantasy Outlook
Sanchez inked a one-year contract with Milwaukee for 2024 and split his playing time between catcher and designated hitter. There was no real surprise in his results, as he clubbed 11 home runs but had a .220/.307/.392 slash line and 27.1 percent strikeout rate. He's hit 30 homers despite inconsistent playing time over the past two seasons, but he doesn't have much upside outside of the power production. Sanchez's .717 OPS against lefties wasn't great, but his past success versus southpaws could mean he still receives some opportunities as a platoon option. He inked a one-year, $8.5 million deal with Baltimore, where he'll serve as Adley Rutschman's backup and a designated hitter option against opposite-handed pitching. Read Past Outlooks

Heading to bench for series finale
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Maverick Handley will get the nod behind the plate Sunday, but Sanchez started the previous two contests and is poised to serve as the Orioles' top backstop for the next few weeks with Adley Rutschman (oblique) out through the All-Star break. Sanchez has turned in a .213/.296/.340 slash line with two home runs and 11 RBI in 54 plate appearances on the season, and while that level of production hasn't been impressive, the absence of Rutschman puts Sanchez on the radar as a pickup in fantasy leagues that require two catchers.

The veteran backstop didn't have a home to begin 2023, but he joined the Mets in May and moved on to the Padres after appearing in just eight games for New York. Sanchez clubbed 19 homers in 75 games overall and had a .780 OPS, which was his best mark since 2019. He hit just .217 but had a 15.4 percent barrel rate and 23.2 percent HR/FB. He missed the final month of the season with a fractured wrist but should be healthy for spring training. Now with the Brewers on a one-year deal, Sanchez is not going to take the reins as the starter behind the plate over William Contreras. However, Sanchez could end up seeing a fair amount of run at designated hitter in Milwaukee. He can provide enough pop to be useful in two-catcher leagues, even while in a timeshare.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Option decision incoming
Sanchez's contract with the Brewers has a $7 million mutual option with a $4 million buyout for 2025.
ANALYSIS
Mutual options are rarely picked up by both parties, so Sanchez is likely headed for free agency. The 31-year-old's buyout was based on the number of days he spent on the active roster in 2024. Sanchez saw a lot of his opportunities for the Brewers against left-handed pitching, though his .717 OPS versus lefties during the regular season was only marginally better than his. 686 OPS against righties. A bench role likely awaits in 2025, regardless of where he ends up.
