Blake Perkins

Blake Perkins

28-Year-Old OutfielderOF
Milwaukee Brewers
2025 Fantasy Outlook
As a switch hitter with elite defensive skills, Perkins is a prototypical fourth outfielder. He saw more playing time than that in 2024 given Milwaukee's injuries, and he finished with a .240/.316/.332 slash line, six home runs and 23 steals in 121 games. Perkins doesn't provide fantasy managers with much besides a middling average and stolen bases, but that's enough to guarantee him at least a semi-regular role for the Brewers when combined with plus-eight Defensive Runs Saved and plus-10 Outs Above Average. He could be a streaming option during hot stretches but doesn't have much long-term appeal. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
For the third time over the Brewers' last four games versus right-handed starting pitchers, Perkins will hit the bench. He appears to have moved into a fourth-outfielder role, with the trio of Jackson Chourio, Garrett Mitchell and Sal Frelick representing Milwaukee's preferred outfield configuration against right-handed pitching.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Perkins joined the Brewers last offseason and made his MLB debut in 2023, posting a .217/.325/.350 slash line with four homers and five steals in 67 games. The offensive production was forgettable, but a 13.9 percent walk rate coupled with strong defense (11 DRS) led to a regular role before being sidelined for a month during the second half with an oblique strain. Perkins seems unlikely to operate as much more than a fourth outfielder given Milwaukee's plethora of young outfield talent, but he could still provide some bench value for the Brewers.
Perkins is known for his defense but finally started to find a bit of a rhythm offensively in 2022, putting up an .813 OPS with 15 home runs and 21 stolen bases over 101 games between Double- and Triple-A in the Yankees organization. That earned him a major-league contract from the Brewers even as he's yet to see any action at the big-league level. The switch-hitting Perkins is 26 but still a work-in-progress and Milwaukee figures to use his options and keep him at Triple-A to see if he can continue to build some momentum.

Bunting with regularity
OFMilwaukee Brewers
May 31, 2024
According to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Perkins has squared to bunt in 12 consecutive starts and has two bunt hits during that stretch.
ANALYSIS
The Brewers as a team have been one of the most bunt-happy clubs in baseball and rank third with 21 bunts, which matches their full-season total from 2023. Perkins opened the season as Milwaukee's No. 4 outfielder, but he's turned into a lineup regular in center field with five home runs and a .241/.324/.367 slash line in 47 games. The 27-year-old's offense has tapered off with a .584 OPS in May, but his strong defense in center field -- he has plus-five defensive runs saved in 393.1 innings -- gives him a stable role despite the offensive inconsistency.
