Returns to San Diego as NRI
The Padres re-signed Davis to a minor-league contract Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis, who turns 32 in February, made seven appearances for San Diego in the 2024 regular season, allowing eight runs (seven earned) over seven innings. The lefty reliever will try to win a spot in the Padres' bullpen but is likelier to begin the 2025 season at Triple-A El Paso.

2020 Fantasy Outlook
Davis hasn't shown much through the first two seasons of his big-league career. After posting a respectable 4.15 ERA in 34.2 innings in 2018, he stumbled to a 6.15 ERA in 20.2 frames in 2019. His 24.5% strikeout rate was above-average, but his 14.3% walk rate and 2.61 HR/9 were each quite poor. In 55.1 total career innings, he now has a 5.04 ERA, a number backed up by his 4.97 FIP. The southpaw hasn't shut down fellow lefties, as they've hit .286/.375/.548 against him. There could be at least a little upside here, as Davis owns a 2.69 ERA and a 30.0% strikeout rate in 83.2 career innings for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, but that upside is likely as nothing more than a capable middle reliever. It would take significant skill growth for Davis to earn save opportunities, and he doesn't offer much in other categories, so he can safely be ignored during draft season in most formats.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Could be traded
The Red Sox could look to trade one of their lefty relievers such as Davis before the trade deadline, opines Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican.
ANALYSIS
When Josh Taylor returns from his back injury this weekend, the Red Sox will have four lefties in their bullpen and could look to move any of Davis, Taylor, Jake Diekman or Matt Strahm to fill other holes in their roster. The 29-year-old Davis compiled a 5.50 ERA in 88.1 big-league innings before this season but has turned a corner in 2022 and has a 2.48 ERA through 36.1 innings. He's been particularly good against lefties, holding same-side hitters to a .164/.220/.182 line with only one extra-base hit in 60 plate appearances. With three years of team control left after this season, Davis could be appealing to teams out of contention looking to shore up their bullpen for the future.
