The Tigers reassigned Bemboom to minor-league camp Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Bemboom was in camp as another catcher to throw to, but he wasn't going to make the roster as long as Jake Rogers and Carson Kelly were healthy. The 34-year-old will provide some experienced depth at Toledo.

2020
Bemboom spent most of 2022 in the minors, recording a .228/.292/.350 slash line with three home runs, six doubles and 15 RBI in 137 plate appearances. Even in two-catcher formats, a backup catcher from the Orioles doesn't have a ton of appeal, as the ultra-talented Adley Rutschman could see up to five games a week behind the dish. Bemboom isn't a particularly attractive option with just 76 major-league games to his name, and it's possible the Orioles could turn back to Robinson Chirinos or a similar veteran backup to pair with their future All-Star backstop, which would see Bemboom back in the minors in an organizational depth role.
Bemboom opened the season on the Angels' taxi squad, joining the active roster in mid-August. He stayed through the end of the season. Bemboom's primary attribute as a prospect was controlling the strike zone. However, when he debuted in 2019, Bemboom fanned at a 37.5% clip with a 1.8 BB%. The second time around was much improved as he posted 21.7 K% and 11.7 BB% marks last year. In addition, Bemboom flashed power, fueled by a 20.0% HR/FB, his best as a professional. Bemboom wouldn't be the first backstop to develop pop later in his career. He's a flyball hitter, although flyballs in the yard are mostly outs, putting batting average at risk. The Angels brought in Kurt Suzuki and Bemboom was unlikely to win the primary role anyway. If he's the backup and his power carries over, he could be in play as a second catcher in AL-only formats.
After stops with the Rockies and Rays, Bemboom returned to the organization that drafted him in 2012 with a July trade to the Angels. His performance in 51 major-league plate appearances down the stretch was about as bad as you'll see at the highest level; Bemboom went 5-for-49 with 19 strikeouts against one walk (.283 OPS). He did provide some value behind the plate, but the Angels signed Jason Castro in January to serve as the primary backstop, leaving Bemboom to compete for the backup role. It was always difficult to imagine the Angels would break camp with Bemboom as their top option. He's shown better bat-to-ball skills in the minors, but with very little thump, never once reaching double-digit homers. This is not an appealing skill set whatsoever for fantasy.

Added to taxi squad
CBaltimore Orioles  AAA
June 12, 2022
Bemboom will be added to Baltimore's taxi squad for its upcoming road trip, reports Paul Mancano of MASN.
ANALYSIS
Bemboom and Kyle Stowers are reportedly joining the taxi squad as Baltimore begins its road trip with a four-game series in Toronto. As Canada requires COVID-19 vaccination for entry, it is possible that the Orioles will have players unable to make the trip and Bemboom will then be activated. The catcher began the season with Baltimore and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk after clearing waivers. For the season, he's posted a .111/.207/.212 line for Baltimore and .200/.276/.240 line in Triple-A.
