2026 Fantasy Outlook
If the Rays could somehow combine the overall skillsets of Jake the Rake Mangum and Chandler Simpson into one player, they could have something special. Neither has any power, but what Simpson lacks in plate discipline and overall approach, Mangum has in spades. Mangum endeared himself to the team and fans with a high-contact and all-fields approach to hitting realizing his best chance for success was hitting the ball on the ground and using his speed to get on base. Mangum, despite having fewer than 400 plate appearances, tied with Trea Turner for the most infield hits in baseball with 32 such hits in 2025. Mangum needs that volume of infield hits because the overall quality of his contact is not great. In an ideal world, Mangum is a fourth outfielder on a club because he has the versatility and skills managers love to have on the bench, but he was forced into regular duties due to injuries and ineffectiveness of others on the roster. Mangum needs a lot to go well to repeat his two-category success of 2025, but this is truly an AL-Only play for 2026. Read Past Outlooks
