Garrett was carving out a role as a short-side platoon player with the Nationals in 2023 when he put up an .839 OPS and slugged seven homers in 142 plate appearances versus left-handed pitching. Unfortunately, his season ended in August with a fractured ankle and the recovery dragged into the start of the 2024 campaign. A .675 OPS at Triple-A Rochester hinted that Garrett wasn't feeling like himself post-surgery and it wasn't until late September when the Nationals finally called him up.
