As a righty whose changeup is his lone quality offering, it's difficult to project Vines to have consistent success as a big-league starter. He could be a useful spot starter in favorable matchups, given how good Atlanta is, but Vines' averaged 90 mph on his fastball last year, which is nearly unheard of for a successful righty starter in today's game. He has decent command, but it's not pinpoint command, which he would need to have to make this pitch mix work regularly against big-league hitters.
