2025 Fantasy Outlook
After a standout 2023, Doval took major steps backwards last season. His 14.4 percent walk rate was second worst among relief pitchers, which attributed to inflated ratios (4.88 ERA, 1.58 WHIP) and an eventual demotion from closing duties. Doval was even optioned to the minors for a few weeks, but the 27-year-old still led San Francisco with 23 saves (T-10th in the league) and a 63.9 percent team save share that ranked 13th among closers. The only thing working for Doval was his slider (.184 BAA, 45 percent whiff rate), and he threw the pitch more than 50 percent of the time. Unfortunately, his cutter (.284 BAA, .552 SLG) and sinker (.375 BAA, .531 SLG) got crushed, the latter regressing significantly since its introduction in 2022. Doval should give Ryan Walker competition for the closer role during spring training. Improving his command would go a long way towards reclaiming at least a share of the role he once held.
