It's almost a must to grab one of the higher-priced pitchers Monday, as both Carlos Carrasco and Patrick Corbin have decent matchups. There is some rain in the forecast for Kansas City and Detroit, but at less than 50 percent, I'm not too worried about it.
PITCHER
Patrick Corbin, ARI vs. MIL ($54): Corbin has slowed down a bit since a hot start, but this matchup could help him return to elite levels. The Brewers have been one of the worst teams against southpaws with a .277 wOBA. Even though their 20.7 K% is solid, Corbin has carved through most lineups with a 34.5 K%. It also helps that he's been more consistent than Carlos Carrasco ($55), having reaching 19 fantasy points in all starts this season.
Joey Lucchesi, SD vs. COL ($38): In order to even out my lineup, I went with the home pitcher in the game that has the lowest over/under (seven runs). Lucchesi isn't going deep into games, but he isn't allowing many runs and has at least 18 fantasy points in five of his last seven outings. The Rockies have decent numbers, but are in a bit of a funk and have one of the higher strikeout rates (27.2 K%) against lefties on the road.
CATCHER
Mike Zunino, SEA at MIN ($16): This is an ideal righty-righty matchup even with a higher price. Zunino already has five homers against righties after last season's .247 ISO and .350 wOBA. That works well against Jake Odorizzi, who has been steady this year, but still unreliable and had a 5.01 xFIP against righties last season.
FIRST BASE
Yonder Alonso, CLE at DET ($15): I avoided Carrasco, but that doesn't mean I don't like the Indians against Mike Fiers. The righty hurler has battled for the Tigers, yet has a bad 15.2 K% with five allowed homers to 60 lefties faced. That's also how last season went with a 4.82 xFIP against lefty bats. Alonso already has six home runs against righties and that's building off last year's .235 ISO and .380 wOBA.
SECOND BASE
Ketel Marte, ARI vs. MIL ($9): Marte is a value play in case you went for one of the top pitchers. He's not a big hitter, but gets on base often and managed a solid .325 wOBA with a minimal 15.1 K% against righties last season. That strikeout rate is important because that's what Junior Guerra does best with a 29.2 K% against lefty bats this year. He's also allowed nine runs in his last two starts and has a career 4.62 xFIP against lefty hitters.
THIRD BASE
Kyle Seager, SEA at MIN ($15): Seager is on a tear with three homers and two doubles in his last four games. He has power against all pitchers with five homers against righties this year after a .199 ISO in 2017. Odorizzi didn't surpass three Ks in two of his last three starts and has already allowed six homers and four doubles to 79 lefties faced this season.
SHORTSTOP
Alcides Escobar, KC vs. TB ($9): Escobar is another cheap bat that can get on base with an early .414 BABIP against lefties after being at .321 in 2017. Ryan Yarbrough is set for his third career start after getting knocked for six hits and five runs last time out. The Royals are better against southpaws with a team .320 wOBA and that could lead to advantageous situations for Escobar.
OUTFIELD
Jorge Soler, KC vs. TB ($21): Soler is smashing lefties with nine XBHs in 41 at-bats this season to go with a career .198 ISO and .349 wOBA. There's little information on Yarbrough as a starter, but he has a 4.30 ERA in mostly relief duty and is striking out righties (19.3 K%) less than lefties (27.0 K%).
David Peralta, ARI vs. MIL ($18): Peralta has 14 extra-base hits this season and 12 of them came against righties. This is a year after roping a .353 wOBA and minimal 16.8 K% against them. Guerra is striking out a lot of batters, but he also has eight walks in his last three starts and had a .350 wOBA against lefty bats last season.
Carlos Gomez, TB at KC ($13): I'm fine with using any righty against Eric Skoglund since he's been all over the place with at least three runs allowed in five of six starts. Through two short years he has a .374 wOBA against 200 righties faced. Gomez is a cheap bat that can provide power with a career .174 ISO and .316 wOBA against southpaws.
