Welcome to my Daily Plays article for Tuesday July 28, 2015. The second half of the season is underway, and there are a few salaries on FanDuel to take advantage of, so let's get on to the picks.
Pitcher
Noah Syndergaard, $8,800 - Syndergaard has really pitched well at home, and has an ideal matchup versus the struggling Padres. Syndergaard has a 1.74 ERA at home in Citi Field, with a K-rate over 9, and has double-digit strikeout potential. In fact, he struck out 13 batters in his last start at home, and he faces the heavily right-handed lineup of the Padres. With big time upside at a reasonable price tag, Syndergaard is the top choice at pitcher regardless of salary.
Zack Godley, $5,800 - There are very few cheap options at pitcher on Tuesday, but Godley presents an interesting option at a bargain price tag. Godley pitched great in his major league debut, striking out seven batters over six shutout innings, without allowing a run. His stuff was impressive, and although the Mariners have been hitting better lately, the matchup in pitcher-friendly Safeco Field is a good one. Godley is the only cheap pitcher with some upside, for those that want to load up on expensive hitters, like the Blue Jays (who face a lefty at home).
Catcher
Matt Wieters, $2,300 - Wieters hit a game-winning home run on Monday, so he should be back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Braves. Wieters is more productive versus right handed pitching in his small 2015 sample size, and he also gets the benefit of hitting at home in Camden Yards. He had three hits on Monday, so he is getting comfortable at the plate. At his near-minimum price tag on FanDuel, and big time power, he makes a strong value play at a difficult position.
First Base
Eric Hosmer, $2,900 - Hosmer has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball since the all-star break, yet his price tag on FanDuel has not increased. Hosmer had three more hits on Monday, including a home run, and loves facing right-handed pitching. He is batting .325 versus right-handed pitching, and is batting over .500 in the past week. At a price tag under $3k, he offers great value at a very affordable salary. Ride Hosmer while he's hot, before his salary increases dramatically.
Second Base
Cesar Hernandez, $3,100 - Hernandez has crushed left-handed pitching so far in 2015, and has a great combination of speed and on-base ability. He gets a huge ballpark boost, as he faces mediocre left-hander Felix Doubront in Toronto. Hernandez is batting a whopping .357 versus southpaws, with a .423 OBP. He has also stolen 14 bases, and bats first or second in the Phillies lineup. With multiple hit and run upside, along with great speed, Hernandez is a strong play on Tuesday night.
Third Base
Danny Valencia, $2,900 - Valencia is a cheap way to get exposure to the Blue Jays, as they face rookie left-hander Adam Morgan at home. They will likely have the highest run total on the board, and for good reason, as they are the best offense by far versus left-handed pitching. Valencia is batting .319 versus southpaws, bats in the heart of the lineup when he starts, and is slugging .632 at home in Rogers Centre. Morgan has a 4.28 ERA and could get demolished in Toronto, so make sure to get some Blue Jays in your lineup, with Valencia being a very affordable option.
Shortstop
Troy Tulowitzki, $3,600 - This is where we can take advantage of FanDuel's salaries, as Tulowitzki is priced as if he is facing the Cubs in Chicago. Tulo was traded late Monday night to the Blue Jays, however, and assuming he is in the lineup on Tuesday he is a must start at his price tag. Tulowitzki is living good, as he moves from one hitters paradise (Coors Field) to another (Rogers Centre). He is notorious for crushing left-handed pitching, and not only does he face rookie left-hander Adam Morgan, but he is priced as if he was on the road playing for the Rockies. Don't get cute at shortstop, and lock in Tulowitzki at his "incorrect" price tag.
Outfield
Carlos Gonzalez, $3,000 - Gonzalez is the hottest hitter in the galaxy, yet his price tag on FanDuel is only $3k. After hitting four home runs over the weekend in Coors Field, his salary decreased from $4900 to $3000 as the Rockies traveled to Wrigley Field. All he did was hit two more home runs on Monday night, including what could have been a game winning two-run shot in the 9th inning (before the Rockies bullpen blew that lead). Facing minor league caliber pitcher Dallas Beeler on Tuesday night, Gonzalez is a no-brainer play in the outfield, and the top value play overall.
Chris Colabello, $2,900 - Colabello is the other Blue Jay that is affordably priced, and like Valencia above, he also enjoys facing left-handed pitching. Colabello is batting .327 versus left-handers, and .349 at home in Rogers Centre. He usually bats fifth in the Blue Jays lineup (prior to Monday's trade), and is a great way to get exposure to their high octane offense at a reasonable price tag. Lock in Colabello and his big time upside in the outfield.
Chris Young, $2,900 - Young is another outfielder that crushes left-handed pitching with an excellent matchup on Tuesday night. Young faces the struggling Martin Perez in Arlington, so he gets a ballpark boost as well. Young is batting a cool .374 versus left-handed pitching, with an incredible 17 extra-base hits in just 91 at-bats. Perez has a 4.91 ERA and is in for a long night against the high-powered Yankees lineup. Young bats second in front of Alex Rodriguez (who is also a strong play), so he should get plenty of fastballs to hit, giving him a good chance at hitting home runs.
