After having the day off Monday, the World Series resumes Tuesday with Game 6. The Astros staved off elimination with a win in Atlanta in Game 5, coming back from an early 4-0 deficit. Now the series shifts back to Houston, which means the DH comes back into play for both teams. That might actually be more significant for Atlanta, who can now deploy all four of Adam Duvall, Jorge Soler, Eddie Rosario and Joc Pederson. Let's dive further into this matchup and highlight some players to consider for your DraftKings Showdown contests.
Captain's Pick
For those new to this format, the player that is selected for the Captain's Pick in your lineup will receive 1.5X the fantasy points. The downside is, whoever you select for that spot, you will also have to pay 1.5X their salary.
After two excellent starts this postseason, Max Fried ($10,600) has hit a wall. Over his last two outings, he allowed 11 runs across 9.2 innings. He allowed 18 baserunners during that stretch, which was a stark contrast to his 1.09 WHIP during the regular season. On the chance that he can't turn things around for Game 6, this could be an opportune time to deploy Carlos Correa ($13,200 Captain's Pick). He had three hits in Game 5 and has generated a .375 OBP during the Astros' playoff run. Also, he has a career .367 wOBA versus left-handed pitchers.
As bad as Fried has been lately, Luis Garcia ($9,600) hasn't exactly been a star in the playoffs, either. Across four starts, he's allowed 11 runs over 13 innings. He was lucky to only allow one run in Game 3 considering that he issued seven baserunners over 3.2 innings. He could be in a lot of trouble against Freddie Freeman ($15,600 Captain's Pick), who has followed up his .379 wOBA during the regular season with a .407 wOBA during the playoffs.
Top Targets
With the left-handed Fried set to start for the Braves, Jose Altuve ($10,200) is another appealing option within the Astros' lineup. He has a career .376 wOBA and .171 ISO versus lefties, compared to a .344 wOBA and a .148 ISO against righties. He's already hit two home runs in the World Series, giving him a total of five for the Astros' playoff run.
Austin Riley ($8,000) has been locked in for the Braves. He's currently on a six-game hitting streak that has seen him record four doubles and four RBI. He has logged at least one hit in all but three playoff games for the Braves and he has five multi-hit performances.
Bargain Bats
While he might not generate a lot of headlines, Travis d'Arnaud ($6,400) has certainly pulled his weight in this series. After batting just .220 with .291 wOBA during the regular season, he has three multi-hit performances and two home runs in the World Series. At this cheap salary, it could be well worth taking a chance on him continuing his hot streak.
When you're hunting for players with cheap salaries, home run upside can be key. It only takes one swing to provide significant value. If we're hunting for a long ball in this game, Duvall ($7,200) could provide it. He launched a grand slam in Game 5, giving him two home runs in the World Series after slugging 38 of them during the regular season.
