Teaira McCowan

McCowan spent the first three years of her career in Indiana but was traded to the Wings ahead of the 2022 campaign. She was eased into action while coming off the bench early in the season but took on a much more prominent role to close out the year and was a fairly regular double-double threat while starting 14 of the Wings' final 16 games. She averaged 15.1 points and 9.9 rebounds in 26.2 minutes per game during that time, and her efforts earned her a three-year contract with Dallas ahead of the 2023 season. McCowan's increased production came when she replaced Isabelle Harrison in the starting five, and Harrison signed with Chicago during the offseason. With Harrison out of the picture, McCowan should claim a prominent role in the Wings' frontcourt to begin 2023. However, it's worth noting she will miss approximately a month in June due to overseas commitments in Turkey, limiting her total games.

McCowan - along with a 2023 first-round pick - was traded to the Wings in exchange for the Nos. 4 and 6 overall picks in the 2022 draft and a 2023 first-round pick. The 6-foot-7 center is coming off a career-best 2021 campaign with the Fever in which she averaged 11.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.1 assists in 26.5 minutes per game over 32 appearances. She figures to operate as the Wings' starting center in 2022, which likely means Isabelle Harrison will shift to a bench role. McCowan's fit with Arike Ogunbowale will be critical to her production with her new squad, but the duo figures to complement each other well and could be a dominant high-low option in their first season together.
