Despite sharing the court with Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones, Vandersloot averaged at least 10 points, eight assists, three rebounds and a steal for the fifth time over her past six seasons. She has one year remaining on her current deal and will return to a star-laden team, though Jones may be on the move this offseason. Vandersloot is entering her age-35 season, but with Marine Johannes unlikely to play in the WNBA in 2024, the veteran should remain in a 30-plus minute role again. After three straight top-10 fantasy finishes, Vandersloot finished 22nd and 21st over the last two seasons, respectively, so she should be a safe pick at the end of the second or early third round in drafts. Vandersloot will sign a one-year contract with the Sky once free agency opens, Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Vandersloot was drafted by Chicago with the third overall pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft and spent the first 12 years of her career with the Sky, averaging 10.3 points, 6.8 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 28.3 minutes per game while becoming the franchise leader in assists, steals and games played. She spent the last two seasons with the Liberty in pursuit of her second WNBA title. Vandersloot accomplished that goal in 2024 but had a reduced role in her age-35 season, averaging 6.4 points, 4.8 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 22.3 minutes per game while starting in all 31 of her regular-season appearances. However, she took on a bench role during the postseason and averaged just 7.3 minutes per game over the final four matchups of the WNBA Finals. However, Vandersloot will reclaim a starting role with Chicago and will provide a veteran backcourt presence for an organization that includes young frontcourt stars in Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso.

After spending her entire career in Chicago, Vandersloot is moving to New York for her age-34 season. She's joining one of the WNBA's two superteams, with the other being Las Vegas. With her age and surrounding talent in mind, it's fair to expect Vandersloot to take a step back while playing alongside Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones. Still, Vandersloot's upside as a passer and defender make her an enticing fantasy option. Last season, in 26.5 minutes per game, she averaged 11.8 points on 48/37/77 shooting, 6.5 dimes, 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 combined steals-plus-blocks.
"Vandersloot" and "leading the league in assists" have become synonymous in recent seasons, with the veteran guard having topped the charts in that category every year since 2017. While Vandersloot couldn't match the 10.0 assists per game she averaged in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign, she paced the league by more than 2.0 assists per contest last season. Vandersloot isn't a one-trick pony, as she added 10.5 points and 3.4 rebounds while ranking third in the WNBA in steals per game (1.7). Back with the Sky on a one-year deal to defend the title, Vandersloot should be among the more productive fantasy guards once again in 2022.
