Paolini had a disappointing outing in her opening match at the National Bank Open. The reigning world number six had a bright start as she won the first set with a score of 6-2, winning 65 percent of the service points and converting three break points as well. However, things were not the same afterwards. In the second set, her service points winning percentage dropped to 55, which was lower than Ito who won 60.9 percent points on her serve. Ito also converted two break points, one more than Paolini. In the third set, Paolini just won 42.5 percent of the service points, which was nearly 13 percent lower than what she did in the previous set.
