Rossi narrowly missed out on the Firestone Fast 6, but lined up sixth on the grid due to a penalty to Christian Lundgaard. He ran a fairly straightforward three-stop race from there and used his track position to his advantage. Rossi has had a first season to forget at Ed Carpenter Racing, as this marked his first top-10 finish in seven races and his first top five of the year.
