Second straight heel hook victory
HeavyweightUFC
February 15, 2025
Walker defeated Don'Tale Mayes via submission (heel hook) at 1:17 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's a second straight first-round win for Walker, and also his second straight via heel hook. The hulking Brazilian deserves credit for recognizing a hole in Mayes' game and exploiting it. Walker shot for an immediate takedown and got it with easy. He then quickly adjusted and clamped on the heel hook which closed the show. It was a highly impressive sequence, albeit it one that came against an opponent with zero grappling chops. Walker will continue to fly up the heavyweight rankings if he can put together a string of dominant performances such as this one.

Walker will take on Don'Tale Mayes in a heavyweight bout at UFC Vegas 102 on Feb. 15, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Walker is coming off his first career UFC win, disposing of Junior Tafa via Heel Hook in the first round of a fight back in August. He'll look to stack victories against in opponent in Mayes who is coming off a loss at the hands of Shamil Gaziev. Both fighters are 6-foot-6, but Mayes has 2.5 inches of reach on Walker.

Walker defeated Junior Tafa via technical submission (heel hook) at 4:56 of Round 1 at UFC 305 on Saturday in Perth, Australia.
ANALYSIS
Walker gassed out badly in his UFC debut against Lukasz Brzeski in April, eventually dropping a unanimous decision. The same thing may have very well happened this time around, but we'll never know because he found the stoppage late in Round 1. Walker got clipped with a couple huge shots early on which seemed to wake him up. He wisely went to his wrestling game to stay alive and eventually got the heel hook which caused Tafa to yell out in pain, which was correctly ruled a technical submission by referee Steve Perceval. Walker's roster spot should be secure moving forward with the victory.

ANALYSIS
After breaking his perfect 11-0 professional record in his UFC debut against Lukasz Brzeski, Walker will have the chance to bounce back in August. The Russian heavyweight will get his fight against "The Juggernaut," who is 1-2 in his UFC tenure and 5-2 in his professional career.

Walker lost to Lukasz Brzeski via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
There's a real case to be made Walker deserved to win this fight and it's shocking not one judge scored it for him, but it was sloppy and very boring at times and it's difficult to get too worked up about the decision one way or the other. Walker landed 4-of-5 takedown attempts for 7:19 worth of control time, but was simply too tired to generate much offense with his positional advantage. That, combined with Brzeski's advantage on the feet, resulted in Valter's first professional loss.
