Cannon fodder for top prospect
WelterweightUFC
August 24, 2024
Magny lost to Michael Morales via TKO (punches) at 4:39 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Magny has been a good soldier for the UFC for a long time, but the company did him absolutely no favors with this matchup. Entering as a +600 underdog, Neil had Morales pinned to the fence much of Round 1 and appeared to be executing his game plan to perfection, at which point Morales landed a spinning elbow that sent Magny crumbling to the mat. Neil survived about a minute longer but ultimately was unable to extract himself from the situation. Having just turned 37 years of age, Magny has alternated losses and wins in his past five bouts, but his most recent fight prior to this one was a late miracle stoppage over Mike Malott. Neil should be 1-4 in that stretch instead of 2-3. Either way, the days of Magny making an impact at 170 pounds have come and gone.

Agrees to fight Morales in August
WelterweightUFC
July 4, 2024
Magny has verbally agreed to take on Michael Morales at a UFC event in Las Vegas on August 24, per Danny Segura of MMAJunkie.USAToday.com.
ANALYSIS
Magny will be tested against the younger Morales, who will put his undefeated record on the line. "The Haitian Sensation" will hope to use experience, size and reach advantages over the younger Morales in the bout. The veteran Magny will head into the fight coming off a knockout victory over Mike Malott in January and will undoubtedly be hoping to build off that positive momentum.
Scores miracle win in Toronto
WelterweightUFC
January 20, 2024
Magny defeated Mike Malott via TKO (punches) at 4:45 of Round 1 at UFC 297 on Saturday in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Entering as the second-largest underdog on the entire card at +300, Magny was mere seconds away from a certain defeat. He showed nothing for two-plus rounds before somehow finding himself in a dominant position on the mat against a totally gassed Malott. Magny, an absolute professional, took full advantage. He rained down countless unanswered blows from a variety of different positions. Referee Kevin MacDonald was more than generous in allowing Malott to work through it, but Magny finally closed the show. Not competitive in a unanimous decision loss to Ian Garry last August, Neil somehow puts himself right back on the fringes of contention with this upset win.
Booked for UFC 297

Magny will fight Mike Malott at UFC 297 on Jan. 20, Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Magny dropped his last fight to Ian Garry via unanimous decision and has gone 5-5 across his last 10 bouts. He hasn't lost consecutive fights since 2013, though that streak could be in jeopardy as he faces Malott, who has yet to take a loss in the UFC.
Not competitive in loss
WelterweightUFC
August 20, 2023
Magny lost to Ian Garry via unanimous decision (26-30, 26-30, 24-30) at UFC 292 on Saturday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
Magny has made a career out of working his way into fights and taking them over but could never find his way past the range to land anything effective. Garry also did an excellent job at breaking away whenever "The Haitian Sensation" attempted to clinch, which resulted in the two fighters staying at range. Magny simply couldn't handle the leg kicks of Garry, as he was taken off his feet multiple times and was struggling to walk by the end of the third frame. Magny's role has been pretty well defined at this point as a gatekeeper to the top-10 at welterweight, but he may need to go back to the drawing board after being so thoroughly handled in this one.
Scheduled against Garry

Magny will fight Ian Garry in a welterweight bout at UFC 292 in Boston on Aug. 19, according to MMAFighting.com.
ANALYSIS
Garry was supposed to fight Geoff Neal, but the latter withdrew because of medical reasons. Magny has volunteered to step in Neal's place on less than 10 days notice and is trying to build a winning streak after defeating Phil Rowe via split decision at UFC on ABC 5.
