Mohammad Yahya

United Arab Emirates

Still searching for first UFC win
LightweightUFC
July 26, 2025
Yahya lost to Steven Nguyen via TKO (doctor stoppage) at 5:00 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
Yahya showed remarkable toughness, but it's not a stretch to say this was one of the most lopsided fights in UFC history. Yahya was knocked down by Nguyen on six different occasions, a new company record. The fight probably could/should have been stopped on multiple instances, but referee Jason Herzog allowed it to continue until a horrific eye injury suffered by Yahya finally resulted in the end of the action at the conclusion of Round 2. Mohammad is a native of the United Arab Emirates and it's understandable that the UFC wants to try to get a hometown guy on the card whenever they visit there, but Yahya is now sporting an 0-3 record with the company and it's going to be difficult to give him another opportunity.

Set to face Nguyen
LightweightUFC
June 28, 2025
Yahya will take on Steven Nguyen in a lightweight bout at UFC Abu Dhabi on July 26, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Yahya is in desperate need of a victory to prevent his UFC career from starting out a dismal 0-3. His last time in the Octagon, he fell at the hands of Kaue Fernandes in the first round. That was back in August of 2024. Nearly a year later, he'll get his third bout with the promotion against a fighter in Nguyen who is coming off a loss in his UFC debut.
Routed on home soil
LightweightUFC
August 3, 2024
Yahya lost to Kaue Fernandes via TKO (punches) at 4:45 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
The lone United Arab Emirates fighter on the entire card, Yahya was routed from start to finish. He simply stood around and ate countless low kicks from Fernandes, which left him hobbled. With his mobility gone, Yahya was unable to survive the onslaught that came his way, eventually getting finished late in the opening frame. Most newcomers to the UFC roster typically receive three fights before they are handed their walking papers, but Yahya has looked so poor in his first two kicks at the can that he may be an exception to the rule.
Booked for Abu Dhabi card
LightweightUFC
June 27, 2024
Yahya will take on Kaue Fernandes in a lightweight matchup at UFC Abu Dhabi on August 3, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
It will be nearly a year on the sidelines for Yahya, who dropped his UFC debut to Trevor Peerk last October via decision. He now faces another newcomer in Fernandes, who lost his debut to Marc Diakiese last November. Both men have the same listing for height and reach.
Marotte fight scrapped
LightweightUFC
February 20, 2024
Yahya is not fighting Brendon Marotte at UFC Fight Night 238 on March 2, according to MMAJunkie.com.
ANALYSIS
Marotte withdrew from the fight because of an undisclosed injury. It appears the UFC will not find a last-minute replacement for Yahya, who will have to compete at a later date instead.
Scheduled against Marotte
LightweightUFC
January 11, 2024
Yahya will fight Brendon Marotte at UFC Saudi Arabia in a lightweight bout on March 2, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Despite struggling in his UFC debut, Yahya will receive a second opportunity to fight in the Middle East, this time in the UFC's first card in Saudi Arabia. Marotte is also trying to redeem himself after suffering a 20-second TKO at the hands of Terrance McKinney.
