July 16, 2025
Almeida is scheduled to compete against fellow heavyweight Alexander Volkov at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi on Oct. 25, per Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com.
ANALYSIS
With an 8-1 UFC record, Almeida has a better stake to the promotion's heavyweight title than most. By going 9-1 with a win over Volkov, the Brazilian can put himself next in line for a title shot. With a recent loss to Gane, Volkov narrowly lost out on an immediate championship fight with UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall.

Improves to 8-1 with UFC
HeavyweightUFC
January 18, 2025
Almeida defeated Serghei Spivac via TKO (punches) at 4:53 of Round 1 at UFC 311 on Saturday in Los Angeles.
ANALYSIS
There was a ton of action for a fight which ended up lasting less than five minutes. Both men were credited with a successful takedown, in addition to a reversal. Yet, it was Almeida's ability late in the frame to work his way back to his feet and damage Spivac with one massive blow which ended up winning him the fight and earning him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Jailton eventually flattened Serghei out and rained down unanswered blows until referee Jason Herzog had seen enough. Almeida is now 8-1 in the UFC, with eight stoppage victories and a unanimous decision win over Derrick Lewis on his ledger. The Brazilian is closing in on a title shot in a heavyweight division that is thin up top.

ANALYSIS
Almeida was given an indefinite medical suspension by the New Jersey State Athletic Board following his UFC 302 victory over Alexandr Romanov in June, but it seems he's been cleared to return to the octagon. Almeida will look to continue his momentum since he's gone 7-1 across his last eight fights.
Surprising medical suspension

Almeida (knee) has been given an indefinite medical suspension by the New Jersey State Athletic Board following his UFC 302 victory over Alexandr Romanov, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Almeida didn't even need three minutes of fight time to get the job here and showed no signs of damage, but a knee injury was apparently identified during his post-fight medicals. He'll need to get back a clean MRI, as well as clearance from an orthopedist, if he intends to build on this momentum before late-2024.
Makes quick work of Romanov
HeavyweightUFC
June 2, 2024
Almeida defeated Alexandr Romanov via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:27 of Round 1 at UFC 302 on Saturday in Newark.
ANALYSIS
Just three months after a failed takedown attempt resulted in his first UFC loss, Almeida returned to his bread and butter, needing to ground Romanov only once before applying the choke. Raw athleticism can get you far in the heavier weight classes, but Almeida will need to manage his energy and be prepared to stand in the pocket if he wants to reach beyond a certain level. He moves to 21-3 in professional MMA due to the win.

ANALYSIS
After his fight with Alexander Volkov fell through, UFC has found a replacement to take on Almeida, who currently sports a 20-3 record. The Brazilian heavyweight will take on Alexandr Romanov, a Moldovan fighter with a 17-2 record and nickname of "King Kong."
