Erslan lost to Jimmy Crute via submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:33 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Perth, Australia.

Erslan is known as a power puncher with zero grappling game. The fact he was submitted by Crute isn't a surprise. How it happened, was. Ivan found himself in borderline mount and looked prime to unload on Jimmy, at which point Crute reversed the position to a mount of his own and immediately earned the submission win. It's a mistake you just can't make at this level, especially when you are fighting to avoid an 0-3 record with the company. Erslan will be 34 years of age in mid-November, and the odds would appear to be strongly against the UFC running him back out there. There simply isn't any upside to the decision.

Of course, none of this ended up mattering after Stirling landed a late knockdown and nearly earned the stoppage in the closing seconds. Not only has Erslan lost each of his first two UFC bouts, but he was just 2-2 in his last four fights prior to his company arrival. There's nothing to be excited about here.
