As most would have predicted, Durden got off to a fast start. He landed two takedowns in Round 1, good for 3:14 of control time. After that, the wheels completely fell off. Cody appeared totally exhausted, and Van responded by flooring the gas pedal. Durden absorbed 135 total strikes over the course of the final 10 minutes, many of which would have fallen any mere mortal. Once the final bell rang, it was academic. Set to turn 34 years of age next March, Durden is just 1-3 in his past four fights dating back a year. Cody has more ability than that record would lead you to believe, but you are what your record says you are in this sport, and Durden will likely be fighting for his job his next time out.

Durden defeated Matt Schnell via submission (ninja choke) at 0:29 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Accepting this fight just days ago, Durden went out and tried to finish Schnell early, which was a very smart game plan considering he had nothing resembling a full training camp under his belt. Schnell wouldn't go anywhere, however, and both men landed a ton of damage on the feet in Round 1. We appeared prime for more of the same in Round 2, at which point Schnell went for a lazy takedown attempt and left his neck exposed in the process.
