Durability issues remain

October 4, 2025
Muniz lost to Edmen Shahbazyan via TKO (strikes) at 4:58 of Round 1 at UFC 320 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
That should just about do it for Muniz in terms of him being taken seriously in the middleweight division. In typical Muniz fashion, he was in the midst of his best flurry of the round, only to get starched with a left hand from Shahbazyan and finished with follow-up elbows. Muniz is one of the most disappointing fighters on the roster when you combine natural ability with results inside the Octagon. The 35-year-old Brazilian has lost four of five dating back to February 2023, all via stoppage. He could very easily be looking at a release.

Muniz lost to Ikram Aliskerov via TKO (punches) at 4:54 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Entering as a +350 underdog, Muniz played his role to perfection. Outside of one token takedown attempt, he was content with consistently getting backed up by Aliskerov on the feet. The finish came when Muniz crumbled during an exchange along the fence in what was a delayed reaction. Referee Jason Herzog gave the Brazilian countless time to recover, but he was unable to do so and was finished with just six seconds left in the opening frame. Once viewed as a rising contender at 185 pounds, Muniz has lost three of his last four and has just a single win dating back to July 2022.

ANALYSIS
The fight was previously scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia before Muniz was forced to withdraw due to passport issues, but it appears it will now take place in Kansas City. Muniz will hope to shake off any rust that may have developed since his most recent fight in December, 2023. With a combined record of 20-1 in submission finishes, both fighters will likely be looking to use the ground game to take out their opponent.

Muniz will fight Ikram Aliskerov at UFC Saudi Arabia on Feb. 1, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
The two fighters were originally set to face each other at UFC Vegas 93 back in June, but Muniz suffered a foot fracture while training for the bout and has since been held out of action. Now fully recovered, he'll finally get his shot at Aliskerov, though the 34-year-old Brazilian could be at risk of showing some rust in what will be his first fight in nearly 14 months.
