Retires Molly McCann in London
StrawweightUFC
March 22, 2025
Thainara defeated Molly McCann via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:32 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
In the grand scheme of things, a win over the since-retired McCann means next to nothing, but this was a big spot for Thainara for her UFC debut in enemy territory, and she passed the test with flying colors. The stoppage would also go on to earn her a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Known as a high-level grappler, Thainara easily muscled Molly to the mat and dominated before clamping on the rear-naked choke. The Brazilian has just one pro loss in her career, and that came against fellow UFC fighter Bruna Brasil on the regional scene back in November 2019.
Added to UFC London on March 22

Thainara will replace Istela Nunes (not injury related) in a strawweight bout at UFC London against Molly McCann on March 22, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Nunes won't be able to fight due to issues with her visa, allowing Thainara to step in. The 29-year-old holds an 11-1-0 record, and she won her last fight against Rose Conceicao via unanimous decision on Sept. 24.

Thainara defeated Rose Conceicao via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, she was one of five fighters to be officially awarded a UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
She didn't get the finish, but Thainara put on a formidable performance as a slight betting underdog. She dominated the significant striking total in all three rounds, in addition to securing a trio of takedowns (at a success rate of 100 percent) and 2:23 worth of control time. The 26-year-old Brazilian is now headed for the UFC's strawweight division.
