Brandon Hagel recorded a hat trick and four points in his last outing. He is a solid value play for Thursday DraftKings NHL DFS contests.
Wyatt Johnston has three points during a three-game point streak and faces a Sharks team that has surrendered seven goals in two games this year. He's a great DraftKings NHL DFS pick.
There may only be three games on Sunday's FanDuel NHL slate, but there's still a few prime players to pick.
RotoWire's Shawn Hutchinson is back with his first edition of Hutch's Hockey for the 2024-25 season, including players to watch on every NHL club.
2023 Fantasy Outlook
While it didn't end in a Calder Trophy nomination, Johnston's rookie year was a success. Not only did he play in all 82 games, he looked like he belonged with 41 points, 160 shots on net and a plus-6 rating in 2022-23. He faded in the playoffs with just six points in 19 games, but that's not a big concern for his long-term outlook. Just 20 years old, he already looks like a capable second-line center, especially with the guidance of Jamie Benn or Tyler Seguin on his wing to provide stability, depending on the lineup. Johnston shot 15 percent last year, which probably isn't sustainable, but he should be able to increase his shot volume and see a bump in ice time in 2023-24, which could help him exceed 50 points in his second campaign.
