Stefan Noesen

32-Year-Old CenterC
New Jersey Devils
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Five years after leaving the Devils in free agency, Noesen returns to the organization with significantly more offensive upside, having reached the 35-point threshold in each of his previous two seasons with the Hurricanes. Signed to a three-year deal with a $2.75 million AAV, the silky-handed forward will need to continue to produce at that same level in order to continue earning his pay bump. Given New Jersey's depth down the middle, the natural center will likely slot into a wing role, which could drop him down to the third line - especially if Dawson Mercer has a bounce-back year. Regardless, Noesen isn't going to be a top-line winger for the Devils but should comfortably find himself in the middle six with some power-play opportunities as well. Read Past Outlooks

Reaches 20-goal mark for first time
CNew Jersey Devils
March 27, 2025
Noesen scored an empty-net goal on two shots, added two hits and blocked two shots in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Blackhawks.
ANALYSIS
Noesen's goal-scoring has dried up significantly with just four tallies in 31 games since the start of January. Still, even with the slump, he was able to secure the first 20-goal campaign of his career with his empty-netter Wednesday. He's also matched his career high with 37 points while adding 150 shots on net, 137 hits, 52 PIM and a minus-6 rating over 71 appearances. Noesen is likely to spend much of his time in a middle-six role, though a spot on the second power-play unit has helped him generate more offense.

Noesen emerged as a regular in his second season with the Hurricanes, and the team began using him as a net-front option with the man advantage, leading to a massive increase in his power-play production. He scored 13 goals and set a new career high in points with 36 (in 78 games) in 2022-23. He also had 15 points with the man advantage after managing exactly one in his first 207 NHL games. While the mini-breakout was nice to see, Noesen is a clear pass in fantasy circles heading into 2023-24 due to the fact that any dip in his power-play usage will completely crater his value.
Noesen has been a bit of a journeyman during his NHL career, and he split 40 games last year between the Penguins and the Sharks, collecting nine points along the way. The Texas native is unlikely to ever match his 27-point campaign from 2017-18, but he should be able to carve out a fairly stable role on the Sharks' fourth line this year. Fantasy managers should expect somewhere between 10 and 15 points as well as roughly 80 hits if he becomes a regular presence in the lineup -- those numbers probably won't make him worth a virtual roster spot.
Noesen's coming off a disastrous season that saw him record just eight points and a minus-19 rating in 41 games. The Devils chose not to serve him a qualifying offer following such a poor showing, sending him into unrestricted free agency. As of this writing, the 26-year-old forward is yet to latch on with another team, and Noesen's going to get a bottom-six role at best if he's in the NHL at all.
Noesen outperformed expectations in his first full NHL season, finishing with 13 goals, 27 points and a plus-12 rating over 72 games. His profile is remarkably similar to that of fellow Plano, Texas native Blake Coleman, as both are bottom-six forwards in their mid-20s capable of pushing for 30 points but not much more for the Devils. Both also play a high-effort style that's more valuable inside the NHL rink than it is in the fantasy realm.
Noesen, Ottawa's second pick in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, had a solid 2011-12 season in junior playing for the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL, leading the team in scoring with 38 goals and 44 assists in 63 games and was a plus-18. Noesen was dynamite in the playoffs, notching 15 points (7G, 8A) in seven games before suffering a wrist injury which sidelined him for the remainder of the postseason. Noesen is likely another year or two away from seriously challenging for a spot in Ottawa's lineup, but he is an extemely hard worker who has gained both weight and strength since his draft year. He projects as a solid top-9 winger with top-6 potential who is tough to play against while also possessing a very underrated offensive game. 2012-13 should see him spend his final year in junior with Plymouth before moving on to Ottawa's AHL affiliate in Binghamton.
Noesen will spend the 2011-12 season playing for the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL where he'll look to better his numbers from the previous year, when he exploded for 34 goals and 43 assists in 68 games. Ottawa's management has compared the 21st overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft to Corey Perry in that he's big, strong, and plays with an edge while also showing some nice skill with the puck. Noesen projects as a power forward and is likely two to three years away from challenging for a spot with the Senators.

Noesen is poised to take on a first-line role against Ottawa on Tuesday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Noesen's increased role comes as Andrei Svechnikov was ruled out indefinitely with an upper-body injury. While it appears Noesen will get the first look, several forwards could be in contention, including Teuvo Teravainen. For his part, Noesen has notched eight goals on 38 shots and eight assists in 27 contests this season.
