2025 Projections

Staying with Buffalo
Johnson signed a three-year, $2.325 million contract with the Sabres on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The first year of Johnson's new deal is two-way, while the last two years are one-way, so that suggests the defenseman will see most of his playing time with AHL Rochester in 2025-26. The 23-year-old had two goals, 13 points and a plus-13 rating over 66 regular-season games with the Americans last season.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
It was a decent rookie year for Johnson, as he managed to play in 41 games for the Sabres, garnering seven assists, 35 shots on net and 39 blocked shots along the way. Still, Buffalo's blue line is a bit of a logjam at this point, which means the 23-year-old Johnson will likely need another injury to pop up, like the shoulder injury that plagued Mattias Samuelsson last year, in order to see regular NHL minutes. At this point, Johnson will be a relative non-factor in most fantasy formats, though he may be worth a dynasty stash.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Might play Thursday
Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News believes Johnson might replace Henri Jokiharju in the lineup for Thursday's game against Ottawa.
ANALYSIS
Lysowski argued that Jokiharju had one of his "worst games in some time" in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to Seattle, which is why the defenseman might end up as a healthy scratch. Johnson, who has two assists, three hits and 18 blocks in 22 NHL games this season, was last in the Sabres' lineup Dec. 31.
