Joseph (upper body) signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Canucks on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Joseph made 47 regular-season appearances between Pittsburgh and St. Louis last year, recording three assists, 45 PIM, 36 hits and 36 blocked shots while averaging 15:16 of ice time. He missed the final 20 games of the regular season due to an upper-body injury, and it's unclear how the issue will impact his availability for the 2025-26 campaign. However, once he's healthy, the 26-year-old should have a chance to compete for a role on the Canucks' blue line.

The Blues are hoping to shore up the left side of their blue line after news surfaced that Torey Krug could miss the entire season if he undergoes ankle surgery. Joseph signed a one-year, $950,000 contract with the Blues to serve in that defensive-focused role. The 2017 first-round pick has averaged just 15:12 of ice time per game over the past two seasons and figures to serve in a similar role during the 2024-25 season when he's in the lineup.
Joseph got his first full taste of NHL action last season. He scored five goals and 21 points while averaging 15:15 of ice time across 75 games. The 6-foot-2 blueliner put 108 shots on goals while laying out 88 hits. Joseph will again be limited to a bottom-four role during the 2023-24 season and shouldn't see much power-play time. Just three of his 21 points last year came with the man advantage. His offensive ceiling is limited to something in the 20-to-25-point range.
Joseph spent most of the 2021-22 season in the minors, racking up 33 points through 61 games with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The 23-year-old defender should stick with the Penguins for most of the 2022-23 campaign, but he'll likely be in and out of the lineup as a rotational, bottom-four option, severly limiting his fantasy upside.
Joseph was acquired by the Penguins from the Coyotes this offseason as part of the Phil Kessel deal and will bolster the organization's defensive prospect pool, which had become suspect in recent years due to the club's, understandable, win-now mentality. Still, the 20-year-old Canadian won't be seeing the NHL any time soon, given Pittsburgh is loaded on the back end and already has Juuso Riikola and Zach Trotman waiting in the wings. In his final junior season, Joseph notched nine goals and 38 assists in 62 games for a pair of QMJHL clubs. At this point, only fantasy owners in the deepest of formats will want to stash the blueliner away considering how far he is from making the 23-man roster.

Signing with Blues?
DFree Agent

Joseph is expected to join his brother Mathieu Joseph in St. Louis after signing a one-year deal Tuesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Joseph saw action in 52 regular-season games for the Penguins last season in which he generated two goals, nine assists and 47 hits while averaging 15:05 of ice time. Even with his new club, Joseph is far from a lock for a spot in the lineup and will likely need to compete with Matt Kessel for a third-line role.
