2025 Fantasy Outlook
In his three seasons as a full-time NHL player, Cotter has two double-digit goal-scoring campaigns. In both of those seasons, his shooting percentage was over 17 percent, a high mark to try to maintain year-over-year. Those two seasons, including last year’s numbers of 16 goals and six assists, bookend a season in which the 25-year-old scored just seven times, shooting 7.0 percent, though he had a career-high 25 points that year. Whether or not the goal-scoring is present or not, one thing remains constant and that's Cotter's ability to bring the boom. The physical forward threw a career-high 245 hits last season, the second-straight 200-hit season of his career. At the very least, it’s fair to expect another big physical season from Cotter, but to expect him to score enough goals to warrant fantasy consideration might not be as wise of a gamble. One of each Friday
Cotter netted a goal, registered an assist, put two shots on goal and dished out two hits in Friday's 5-0 shutout win over the Sabres.
ANALYSIS
After he tallied a secondary helper on Brenden Dillon's twine finder to open scoring in the third, Cotter scored a goal of his own less than four minutes later. With the pair of points, the 26-year-old Cotter has two goals, four assists, 26 shots on net and 62 hits through 24 games this season. He has half his points this season across the last two games and is heating up in the hit department with 15 across his past five appearances. While he's well behind the goal-scoring pace needed to match his total of 16 from the 2024-25 regular season, he's finished above 20 points in each of the past two campaigns and could leap over the 30-point mark if he continues to see middle-six minutes.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
An initial glance at Cotter's numbers last year would indicate a player on the rise, as he set new career highs with 18 assists, 25 points and four power-play points. However, a deeper look at the versatile forward's end of the 2023-24 campaign paints a different picture. The 24-year-old Michigan native ended the regular season mired in a 17-game goal drought during which he generated a mere 15 shots on net. Additionally, Cotter found himself as the odd man out of the lineup in the playoffs, serving as a healthy scratch for all seven of the Golden Knights' postseason clashes with Dallas. An offseason trade saw him shipped off to New Jersey, where he is likely to fill a limited bottom-six role, providing hits and depth scoring but little else.
