Stephens continues to provide veteran depth for organizations, capable of stepping into a fourth-line role whenever necessary. He was tasked with doing that over 28 games with the Kraken last year, compiling three points, 25 hits and a minus-8 rating while averaging 9:14 of ice time. He'll compete for minutes in training camp, but the Kraken's acquisition of Frederick Gaudreau likely means Stephens won't be needed in the NHL to begin the year. Stephens posted six points and 36 hits in 38 games as a rookie for the Lightning last year. He was mostly a part-time player in 2019-20, but with Cedric Paquette now in Ottawa, the door is open for Stephens to take on an everyday role as the fourth-line center. It's a job that will come with competition -- Mathieu Joseph and Boo Nieves are also in the mix for that role -- but Stephens should probably be considered the favorite. A second-round pick in 2015, Stephens is far from being fantasy relevant, but he'll do the little things right defensively, which should keep him in the lineup on a regular basis.
