2025 Fantasy Outlook
Shabanov is coming over to North America on a one-year, entry-level deal with the Islanders after playing in Russia for several years. There's some potential here, as his offensive output increased in each of his last three years in the KHL. The 24-year-old produced 23 goals, 44 assists and a plus-17 rating over 65 regular-season contests in 2024-25, and he also had 20 points in 21 postseason outings. Those are impressive numbers, and while he is a skilled player, his size (5-foot-8, 156 pounds) is a concern for making the transition to the NHL. The left-shot winger is a name worth monitoring this year, but he'll need to prove he can be an effective player on a smaller ice surface -- he could end up in the AHL if he doesn't impress the Islanders' coaching staff. Joining trip out west
Shabanov (upper body) is not with the Islanders for Monday's road game versus the Devils but will join the team ahead of a trip to Vegas on Thursday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Shabanov is far from a lock to play Thursday and could just be traveling with the team in order to start practicing. Prior to his nine-game absence, the 25-year-old winger was starting to find his groove with assists in back-to-back contests.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely headed for IR
Shabanov, who is dealing with an upper-body injury, will likely be designated for injured reserve Thursday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Shabanov has already missed enough games that his placement on IR won't change when he can be activated. The Isles are using the roster spot to call up Travis Mitchell from the minors while Scott Mayfield is away from the team for a personal matter. In his six appearances this year, Shabanov has generated one goal, two assists and eight shots while averaging 11:43 of ice time.
