Max Jones

Max Jones

27-Year-Old Left WingLW
Edmonton Oilers
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Jones signed a two-year, $2 million contract with Boston in July after the Ducks decided not to tender him a qualifying offer. He registered five goals, 15 points, 76 shots on net and 125 hits in 52 games last season. He missed the final 11 contests due to a sprained shoulder, but he will be ready for training camp. After being selected with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, the 26-year-old Jones only has 31 tallies and 62 points across 258 career contests. If he manages to secure a bottom-six role with the Bruins and stays relatively healthy, he could reach the 20-point plateau for the first time while topping 100 hits and 100 shots. Read Past Outlooks

Assist in team debut
LWEdmonton Oilers
March 6, 2025
Jones logged an assist, two shots on goal and three hits in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win over the Canadiens.
ANALYSIS
This was Jones' first point at the NHL level this season. He went scoreless in seven outings with the Bruins before a trade Tuesday brought him into the Oilers' organization. He pushed Jeff Skinner out of the lineup for Thursday's game, though both players could lose out when fellow trade acquisition Trent Frederic (lower body) is ready for his team debut. Jones offers some physicality and could improve Edmonton's bottom six, but he isn't likely to play a large enough role to be a factor in fantasy.

After being limited to just two games in 2021-22 because of a pectoral injury, Jones bounced back in 2022-23 with nine goals, 19 points, 77 PIM and 110 hits in 69 contests. The 25-year-old should continue to be a solid physical presence for Anaheim, but he isn't likely to see much offensive growth. He's strictly a bottom-six forward, having averaged 12:43 of ice time last season, including just 19 seconds per game on the power play, and unless the Ducks run into significant injury problems, there doesn't appear to be a spot for him on either of their top two lines.
Jones is just 23 years old and has potential long-term value as a power forward, but it's pretty safe to say at this point he's destined for a depth role with the Ducks. Jones has played 135 games for Anaheim over the past three years, posting 17 goals, 28 points and a minus-16 rating. Jones should post upwards of 150 hits over the course of a full 82-game campaign, but there simply isn't enough production here to justify spending a draft pick on Jones in most fantasy formats.
Jones struggled a bit in 2019-20, posting just eight goals and four assists in 59 appearances. The winger was prone to the occasional healthy scratch for his inconsistent play, although he did impress with 82 hits and 36 PIM. He may end up playing a similar grinder role if his offense doesn't take off in 2020-21 -- he frequently saw third-line duties last year. The first-round pick from 2016 will need to outplay Danton Heinen if he wants to see a larger role. Jones shouldn't be expected to post more than 20 points next year on an Anaheim team that is still navigating through the growing pains of its rebuild.
Jones earned his first NHL call-up in January, recording two goals and three assists in 30 games with Anaheim. The 2016 first-round pick also added 33 points in 51 games with AHL San Diego last season. Jones wasn't expected to make much of an impact with the parent club last year, but he'll one of many prospects who will have a chance to earn ice time in 2019-20. The 21-year-old winger will compete for a bottom-six role during training camp, but it wouldn't be surprising to seem him begin the year in the minors. Either way, he won't have enough offensive upside to be considered a viable option in the vast majority of fantasy formats this campaign.
