2025 Fantasy Outlook
Roy set a career high with 21 assists in 2024-25 despite playing in just 69 regular-season games. He also finished with a plus-18 rating, the fourth year in a row he’s finished with a positive rating. Even accounting for the missed time, the shot volume was way down from Roy, as he had only 84 shots on goal all year. This could potentially be explained by the fact that he was paired with the offensive-minded Jakob Chychrun, but it was good to see Roy's overall point production didn’t really dip with the assist numbers going up. If that pairing stays together in 2025-26 season and the 30-year-old stays healthy, it’s possible Roy could notch the first 30-point season of his career. Even if that doesn’t happen, the seven-year NHL veteran also stuffs the stat sheet in other ways -- he's delivered triple-digit blocked shots and hits for four straight seasons. Read Past Outlooks
Tallies first goal of season
Roy scored a goal and blocked two shots in Monday's 2-1 win over the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Roy lit the lamp against his former team just under four minutes into Monday's contest for his first goal of the season. With his opening goal to the campaign, the 30-year-old blueliner is up to three points, 28 shots on net, 21 hits and 40 blocks through 19 games this season. Despite his slow start offensively, Roy hasn't missed a beat in terms of category coverage and is once again near the necessary pace to reach his fifth straight season with 100-plus hits and blocks. Roy is a solid depth fantasy defenseman in category leagues and could find a way to increase his scoring output alongside his blue line pairing Jakob Chychrun, who is also heating up offensively.

Following six years with the Kings, the team that selected him in the seventh round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Roy will be heading to the opposite coast after signing a six-year, $34.5 million deal with the Capitals. Last season, the shutdown defenseman racked up an impressive 197 blocked shots while dishing out 152 hits and posting a plus-21 rating. Offensively, the 29-year-old Detroit native is somewhat limited and won't be confused for a Norris Trophy candidate, though he has reached the 20-point threshold in each of the last three seasons. Roy won't fill a power-play role given his offensive limitations, meaning his primary fantasy value comes in formats that utilize defensive stats.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely reaching market
Roy is expected to test free agency after failing to close the gap in contract negotiations with the Kings, Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Both sides have continued to work on a deal, but it looks like Roy will instead be one of the top defensemen on the market Monday. He's exceeded 20 points in each of the last three years while also offering significant physical play and defensive skill. Roy will likely be a top-four defenseman with any team that can sign him.
