Staying in State of Hockey
Johansson signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with Minnesota on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Johansson was set to hit free agency this offseason but instead will be sticking around for another year. The 34-year-old forward will be taking a significant pay cut compared to his $2 million cap hit last year, despite having put together a third straight 30-point campaign. Johansson figures to slot into a middle-six role for Minnesota next year and could push up higher depending on injuries.

Johansson had 11 goals and 30 points in 78 contests with the Wild in 2023-24. He's done significantly better before, surpassing the 40-point milestone on six occasions, but five of those times were during his early-to-mid 20s. He'll turn 34 on Oct. 6, and while there are players who stay effective even into their late 30s, Johansson doesn't seem to be tracking toward that level of longevity. The Swedish forward is still likely to be deployed in a middle-six capacity, so he'll get some opportunities, but he'll likely end up in the 25-35 point range again. He also doesn't spend much time in the sin bin or dish out many hits, so he's not expected to be noteworthy in non-offensive categories.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Staying in Minnesota?
Johansson could be willing to re-sign with the Wild on an inexpensive contract, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Johansson just played out the final season of a two-year, $4 million contract with Minnesota, and the team could re-sign the 34-year-old winger if he is open to taking a decrease in salary. In two stints with the Wild, Johansson has generated a total of 34 goals and 96 points across 206 regular-season games. If the Swede signs another contract with Minnesota, he'll likely serve in a middle-six capacity in addition to working with the No. 2 power-play unit in 2025-26.
