2025 Fantasy Outlook
After a middling start to the season with the Rangers, Kakko was sent to the Kraken in December and instantly clicked with his new team while occupying a top-six role. Kakko totaled 14 goals and a career-high 44 points over 79 contests between the two teams. The Finnish winger has a chance to be a leading part of a younger core as the Kraken continue to shed some of their expansion draft players and replace them with free agents and homegrown prospects. Kakko should have a chance to challenge for the 20-goal and 50-point marks if his post-trade performance with the Kraken stands over the course of a full season in 2025-26. He'll also be a factor on the power play while adding modest contributions in non-scoring areas. Read Past Outlooks

Placed on IR
Kakko (hand) was designated for injured reserve by Seattle on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Kakko has already been ruled out for at least five more weeks due to his broken hand, so his placement on IR shouldn't come as a surprise. With the winger on the shelf, Jani Nyman and Berkly Catton both made the 23-man roster for Opening Night against the Ducks. Once back in the lineup, Kakko should offer decent fantasy value as a top-six winger with power-play ice time.

The former No. 2 overall pick in 2019, Kakko is yet to find his game from an offensive standpoint at the NHL level. He missed a bunch of time last season with a lower-body injury, appearing in just 61 regular-season games, posting 13 goals and 18 points. Kakko was also a healthy scratch for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Mentioned in countless trade rumors that never materialized this offseason, Kakko inked a one-year, $2.4 million contract as a restricted free agent and appears set to return in a third-line, penalty-killing role for the Presidents' Trophy winners.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Could be healthy scratch Thursday
Kakko is working out with the extras at morning skate and could be scratched Thursday in Game 5 versus Florida, according to Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today.
ANALYSIS
Kakko was a healthy scratch in Game 2, the first time he was not in the lineup during the playoffs. The second overall pick in 2019, Kakko has regressed in 2023-24, accumulating only 13 goals and 19 points in 61 regular-season contests. He has been no better in the playoffs, scoring once while adding one helper in 13 appearances. Look for Filip Chytil to reenter the lineup on the top line, with Jack Roslovic moving down to the third unit to replace Kakko.
