2025 Fantasy Outlook
A well-rounded player that provides decent category coverage, Pageau upped his production from 33 points in 2023-24 to 14 goals and 42 points over 79 appearances in 2024-25. The center is more valuable in formats that count faceoffs, as he finished second in the NHL with a 59.6 percent win rate. The Ottawa native’s plus-minus rating improved from two seasons ago, but his blocked shots and hits totals decreased, which adds speculation to Pageau’s outlook for 2025-26 in leagues that count those categories. If the Islanders are out of the playoff conversation by the trade deadline, the 32-year-old, set to be a free agent next summer, could be a candidate to be moved -- he’s defensively reliable and plays special teams, traits that are typically coveted by contenders that are looking to shore up the center-ice position. Pageau's career high in points is 43, so don't expect lofty scoring totals. Read Past Outlooks
Steals show in overtime
Pageau scored a shorthanded goal which was the game-winner in Thursday's 4-3 overtime win over the Golden Knights.
ANALYSIS
Pageau won a faceoff into space along the boards and then got loose on the rush. He went 1-on-1 against forward Mitch Marner, the Golden Knights' last man back, and found a shooting lane to fire the winning goal past Akira Schmid. That's a Pageau performance in a nutshell -- good defensive play and effort with a dash of timely offense. He's earned four goals and three helpers over his last seven outings, and he's up to six goals, including two game-winners, and 12 points through 17 outings this year. The center has added 19 shots on net, 27 hits, 15 blocked shots and a plus-1 rating while primarily playing on the third line. None of Pageau's points have come on the power play, but he's earned four of them while shorthanded.

Pageau scored 11 goals and 33 points in 82 contests in 2023-24, which was slightly below expectations for him, but not by enough to call last season a disappointment. Pageau has recorded at least 39 points on four occasions, including the 2019-20, 2021-22 and 2022-23 campaigns. His mild decline last year can be attributed to a drop in playing time to 15:55 from 17:37 in 2022-23. In particular, he averaged just 1:31 with the man advantage last season compared to 2:23 during the prior campaign and subsequently recorded just two power-play points last season after collecting at least seven in each of the previous four campaigns. With Bo Horvat gearing up for his second full campaign with the Islanders, Pageau doesn't have an obvious path to a spot on the first power-play unit, so the 31-year-old will have a tough time getting back to the 40-point mark.
