Bayreuther agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with Carolina on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Bayreuther hasn't appeared in an NHL game since 2022-23 when he was with the Blue Jackets. That season, the 31-year-old blueliner notched two goals and 12 helpers in 51 regular-season tilts while averaging 15:57 of ice time. It certainly seemed like the New Hampshire native was close to becoming a full-time NHL option, but instead spent last year playing overseas with Lausanne HC, notching five goals and 18 helpers in 52 regular-season contests. At this point, if Bayreuther logs any NHL minutes, it will probably be the result of an injury among the Hurricanes' forward group.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Originally signed by Dallas as a free agent following four years at St. Lawrence University, Bayreuther will be returning to the Stars this season following a three-year stint in Columbus. The rearguard appeared in a career-high 51 games in 2022-23, managing two goals, 14 points, and a minus-18 rating. With the depth chart in Dallas considerably deeper than that of the Blue Jackets, it would be far from surprising if Bayreuther began the upcoming season in either the press box or the AHL.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Continues to be scratched
DColumbus Blue Jackets  Minors
December 13, 2022
Bayreuther is expected to sit as a healthy scratch for a third straight contest Tuesday versus the Panthers, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports.
ANALYSIS
Rookie Jake Christiansen is once again expected to skate on the third pairing against Florida, leaving Bayreuther as the odd man out. Once Nick Blankenburg, who's dealing with an ankle injury, or Adam Boqvist, who's sidelined with a foot issue, is ready to return, Bayreuther may head back to the minors.
